Delta Comfort Plus

I use Delta Comfort Plus frequently and I must say that it’s worth the upgrade on international flight. From the more legroom to the tasty snacks, to the power outlet underneath seats, it’s like having a comfy small office at the top of the sky. Below, I’ve included images from Delta Comfort Plus taken from my iPhone. They give you a sneak peek along with some other suggestions to make your flight as pleasant as you can.

DELTA COMFORT PLUS

Post-pandemic, airports are bustling and flights are packed with travelers desire to explore and compensate for the lost time. However, getting on the plane faster and also having more space and legroom for an entire flight is definitely worth the cost for upgrading your flight to Delta Comfort Plus.

DELTA APP

The first thing to do is on the plane with Delta you must download your Delta App. The app has won awards as one of the most useful airline apps available. When I need to fly with another airline, I am terribly disappointed by the convenience of Delta’s application.

It will display your plan of action, show the location of your luggage to-the-minute and notify you of gate cancellations or changes and let you choose your seats and much more. It will also send alerts via push messages regarding boarding times and gate modifications, which is very helpful when taking the connecting flight.

My only issue is that they promote the Delta Studio streaming feature where it appears that if you’re in the airport for an extended period of time, you can fill in your flight information and stream the in-flight entertainment at no cost on your tablet or mobile device. I’ve not been able to make this feature work however it sounds amazing if they figure out the bugs.

Tip: If you plan to use wifi in your flight and you’re planning to purchase it in advance, do so in the ground at an airport instead of on the plane to save a few dollars. The wifi is provided by GoGo and costs priced at $16 in the ground, compared to $20 when flying. If you’re a customer of T-Mobile In-flight WiFi is sometimes provided for free by entering your number.

EXTRA LEGROOM

In terms of additional legroom for passengers, they don’t cut corners. I’ve been on international flights with different airlines, where my knees are a little closer to the seat. As I’m just 5’3” tall, I can only imagine how much uncomfortable that could be for taller passengers. Here are some iPhone images to give you a look. It is evident that Delta Comfort Plus seats are slightly larger and more comfortable than the economy.

They’re taller too and that’s great for legroom, but not so good for us shorties if our feet don’t reach the floor. Certain flights feature a pull-down foot rest that is available in Comfort Plus, but not all flights. We were delighted to find that feature available on the Delta trip between Amsterdam from Amsterdam to Orlando.

Tip: Don’t choose the exit row for Delta Comfort Plus. The extra legroom that they offer is ample and the arm rests won’t always raise in the row that exits. This is actually a security option in the majority of airline exit rows. If you’re flying internationally and wishing your fingers that you’ll have the row all to yourself to lay down or stretch out then you shouldn’t be in an exit seat. I was in the exit row, and there was no one who came to be my seat mate, so I was able to lie down in a comfy 2 seater.

UPGRADED AMMENITIES

With Delta Comfort Plus, you’ll enjoy upgraded services such as free earbuds for billboards and a refresh kit including the eye-mask, earplugs with foam as well as a travel toothbrush and a sample-sized toothpaste. These aren’t quite the same quality of upgrade you’d find in the Cathay Pacific Premium Economy or Virgin Atlantic’s Premium Economyas there’s no souvenir bag or hand lotion however, it’s an thoughtful gesture. It’s also not the case that basic economy gets all these amenities.

Tip: Personally, I always bring my personal amenity kit (I refer to it as an “accommodation kit”) packed with my favorites items I require to feel at ease, such as small bags of lip balm, green tea hand lotion, misting spray for rose water. You can read my complete checklist for checking in on flights within How to Stay Alive On Long Flights.

ENTERTAINMENT

Delta Comfort Plus included a impressive list of recent TV shows, movies, as well as a few series from HBO. I was thrilled to see recent Oscar winners such as Barbie as well as Oppenheimer included on the list because we haven’t seen these films yet.

The television shows are generally only available for a single series, and if are planning to take advantage of the duration of a flight to binge-watch your favourite series, I’d suggest downloading them to your tablet once you’re back home to pack. One of the advantages of Delta Comfort Plus seats is that they feature an USB port on the seat and an outlet for power between the seats. This means that you’ll be able to have your tablet or laptop fully charged to catch the latest episodes of your favorite series.

FOOD

The food options in flight are certainly an improvement over the typical airlines. They usually have a variety of full-sized chips, bananas as well as cookies and crackers. Also, the drinks offer a little more variety.

I was a bit disappointed when on our last International flight with Delta Comfort Plus, they did not provide us with any new snacks. Instead, they had an NEW Premium section in-between Comfort Plus and Delta One, sort of similar to a business class but with larger screens and a more intimate space. The Premium section was upgraded with the food items that I’m used to getting on Comfort Plus.

SPECIAL OCCASIONS

We also were flying on the day of my husband’s birthday. Also, we were on a KLM flight (a Delta partner) connecting to Porto to Amsterdam gave him chocolate bar, a handwritten card, and a small bottle of Cava and our long trip between Amsterdam to Atlanta did not do anything for his birthday. This isn’t something we’d normally expect however from a customer service perspective, it’s an enjoyable gesture. Particularly if you’re in a category that has been upgraded, such as Comfort Plus.

MORE PLANET-FRIENDLY

A positive aspect that all passengers during their flight can feel is the comfort of his Delta is that it has pledged to use less single-use plastics.

This means that they serve meals with bamboo cutlery and use cardboard packaging for the meals.

In terms of food, it’s either way or the other. I’ve had wonderful meals as well as meals that resembled your typical frozen microwave meal.

Tips: I have noticed that those who make an order for a special meal get their food first and will look higher-end than the standard meals served. If you’re on a special diet, such as dairy free/gluten-free/vegetarian, it’s worth taking the time to make a phone call or put in an online to add a dietary request to your assigned seat. You can also bring some healthy food items for your flight.

Is Delta Comfort Plus Worth It?

Overall, I believe that the quality of service offered by Delta Comfort Plus has gone lower than when it first launched nearly 10 years ago. The service now focuses on a new business class seating called Premium Select, which is positioned between Comfort Plus and First Class or Delta One. However, if you require or desire the additional legroom on an international flight I would say that upgrade is worth the price for the sake of it.
